LONDON, UK and SANTA CLARA, CA – December 2, 2002 – Atypon Systems, a leading technology provider for the information industry, today announced at Online Information 2002 the introduction of a program of services for publishers of all sizes.
The first two of these services are now available:
Atypon's new services were developed from the firm technology foundation created for publisher services such as the Academic Press' IDEAL Library, Blackwell Synergy, and CrossRef. Building on Literatum, Atypon's full service adaptive information management platform, as well as the technology that Atypon developed for CrossRef's new system, both PDFplus and LINKplus will add the richness to publisher content in affordable, quick to implement solutions.
"Atypon's new PDFplus technology will revolutionize the use of the PDF as the primary delivery format for publishers. This service solves the last remaining obstacles for PDF—linking and download speed," said Gordon Tibbitts, CEO of Blackwell Publishing, USA. "As usual, Atypon has delivered the right solution at the right time."
"CrossRef recognizes that certain publishers face barriers to reference linking. The LINKplus service is a good way for our member publishers to become fully compliant with CrossRef and benefit from other linking options," said CrossRef Executive Director, Ed Pentz. "Having partnered with Atypon on the recent CrossRef system rewrite, I have first-hand knowledge of their technological excellence as well as their dedication to customer service."
"Atypon's mission is to provide the highest quality technology and services to publishers that will enable them to truly enrich their content and serve their user communities," stated Atypon CEO, Georgios Papadopoulos. "These new services will help in maximizing the value of scholarly research."
"Over the last several months, Atypon has worked closely with a wide variety publishers to learn the technological problem areas that they face," explained Ravi Singh, Vice President of Corporate Development at Atypon. "Both PDFplus and LINKplus are cost-effective, targeted services that add substantial value to electronic content." Atypon will be showcasing PDFplus and LINKplus at the Online Information 2002 conference from December 3 - 5 2002.
