SANTA CLARA, CA – September 26th 2005 – Atypon announced today the appointment of Martin Marlow to the new senior management position of Vice President of global Sales and Marketing, further strengthening the high caliber of the existing technology solution partner's executive team. Martin officially joins Atypon on Monday 17th October for the Frankfurt bookfair, overseeing all areas of sales, marketing, business and customer development. Martin will be responsible for driving the commercial growth and ongoing discussions with all Atypon's customer partners, as well as expanding Atypon's marketing capabilities and brand awareness. He will also oversee the day-to-day operations of the new UK international office that will be opening in Abingdon, just south of Oxford in the coming weeks.
Georgios Papadopoulos, Atypon CEO and founder said "Over the last few months we have been searching for an individual that could share in our confidence and commitment to the commercial side of the business and help us develop it with enthusiasm and drive for success. Martin is very well known in the industry and has the broad based, in-depth range of expertise we were targeting. We are extremely pleased that Martin is coming on board and joining us at such an interesting time.
Martin brings more than 20 years senior management experience in the electronic information and e-commerce arenas, focusing on sales, strategic & operational marketing, electronic product development and publisher/partner relations. Martin's career spans all the key stages in the development of the industry, from CD-ROM to the latest web based delivery systems. He has conceived, sold and marketed a wide range of services including e-journal and e-book aggregation platforms, cross-format e-content retrieval systems, online ordering and claiming systems and various online portals and communities. His past positions include Director of Electronic Commerce for Blackwell Ltd, VP Product and Marketing for Wide Learning Multimedia and Sales and Marketing Director (Academic) for SilverPlatter Information Inc. For the last 3 years he has been Director of Strategic Marketing for ProQuest Information and Learning International, responsible for top-level strategic and product-level marketing, specialist sales support and international business development across EMEA, Latin and South America and Asia Pacific.
Martin said "I am very pleased and privileged to be joining Atypon at such an exciting time for the company. When I spoke to Georgios I recognized that he had a very stable and strong business, but also a focused strategic view – not only of the industry as a whole, but how the company would respond and expand to meet the changing demands. The recent acquisition of Extenza e-Publishing Services is evidence of this. Atypon sees the need to provide a full suite of services for differing sizes and types of customers (and their available budgets) and a potential upgrade path through those services as end user needs require. When I looked at the technology I realized it was ideally suited to provide this flexibility, but still remain robust and scaleable. Increasingly, publishers and content providers will need to look for a cost effective "safe pair of hands" in choosing their strategic technology partner, not least as differing content types and formats come through. Atypon attracted me because they had this reputation, proven technology, and also the "trusted partner" outlook that I believe will be vital as the market grows. I'm looking forward to helping them grow as well.
Martin joins Atypon on 17th October, and you can meet him in Frankfurt at the Atypon stand G445, in Hall 4.2. Please contact Lesley Thomas (firstname.lastname@example.org) to schedule an appointment.
