Lisse, The Netherlands and Santa Clara, California – February 7th, 2005 – Atypon Systems Inc and Royal Swets and Zeitlinger announced today that Atypon has acquired Extenza e-Publishing Services from Swets. Active since 2003, Extenza currently offers a cost-effective, fully-managed journal hosting service for some 50 publishers. Atypon will maintain the Extenza brand as an additional e-publishing offering to Literatum, Atypon's current e-publishing platform. The transition of content to Atypon will be finalized by August 1, 2005.
Atypon's Literatum manages content for eJournals and other digital media powering major websites such as Blackwell Synergy, Annual Reviews and the University of California Press and providing the basis for the CrossRef system. Literatum will continue to serve mid-sized and larger publishers who require a high level of hands-on administrative control of their online business with a customized, feature-rich web site to present their content.
"Extenza e-Publishing Services is an excellent hosting option for publishers who need a streamlined and low cost online solution. It will complement Atypon's Literatum, which is the premium offering for publishers who want to offer a rich user experience and grow their online offering," said Georgios Papadopoulos, Atypon's CEO. "Extenza's clients will benefit from our technological and industry experience, while enjoying a smooth transition and uninterrupted service. The Extenza staff have built a highly professional and well respected service. Between Literatum and Extenza, Atypon offers an increased range of services to scholarly publishers."
"Swets' sale of Extenza e-Publishing Services to Atypon reinforces our commitment to our core business, Swets Information Services," commented Bob Visser, Swets' Chief Information Officer and Executive Board member, "There is a clear synergy between the businesses and we are confident that Atypon will provide Extenza's clients with the same technological advantages and high level of service that they have come to expect from Extenza."
