Georgios Papadopoulos

President and CEO

Dr. Georgios Papadopoulos founded Atypon in 1996 to serve the scholarly publishing community. He leads the business and collaborates with developers and publishers to create technology solutions for some of the world's leading scholarly publishers.

Prior to founding Atypon, Dr. Papadopoulos worked for the pioneering web development company WAIS, Inc., developing the software for the first online journal, the Journal of Biological Chemistry. He developed specialized technology for Dow Jones, the first SGML serving site for the Intel Corporation, and a sophisticated access control system for Rizzoli Publishing. He was also responsible for the redesign of the New Era 4GL and its compiler for Informix, Inc.

Dr. Papadopoulos received his B.S. degree in Mathematics at Aristotle University in Thessaloniki, Greece. He was awarded a Fulbright fellowship and earned his Master's and Doctoral degrees in Computer Science at New York University.

Rika Tsitsinia

Vice President of Operations

Ms. Tsitsinia manages production at Atypon, assuring the quality of the development process and the final product. As a product manager, she has engineered inventive solutions to the problems faced by both publishers and developers.

Before coming to Atypon in 1997, Ms. Tsitsinia held technical and leadership positions at Informix, Inc. She received a Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics from Aristotle University in Thessaloniki, Greece. She was awarded a Fulbright scholarship and earned her Master's degree in Computer Science from New York University.

Chris Beckett

Vice President of Sales & Marketing

Mr. Beckett joined Atypon in 2007 and is responsible for overseeing sales, marketing, and customer development. Before joining Atypon, he was a Co-Founder of Scholarly Information Strategies, a consultancy that specialized in assisting publishers, libraries and infomediaries to develop and deliver electronic products and services.

Mr. Beckett has over 25 years of senior executive experience in product development and sales and marketing. He has also worked for Blackwell Information Services, CatchWord, and Ingenta; is a regular speaker at industry conferences; and is a qualified librarian.

Hisham Shahtout

Vice President of Engineering

Mr. Shahtout joined Atypon in 1998 to lead the development of the first version of Atypon's electronic publishing platform. As Vice President of Engineering, he is responsible for all development activities and ensuring that Atypon's customer needs are met by its engineering team.

Mr. Shahtout has over 15 years of experience building leading edge software products, including building the world's first guaranteed message delivery network as Director of Engineering at SlamDunk Networks and leading the integration of Oracle's midtier products into their JDeveloper tool as a Principal Software Engineer. Mr. Shahtout holds a B.Sc. in computer engineering from Technion - Israel Institution of Technology.

Kevin Cohn

Director of Client Services

Mr. Cohn joined Atypon in 2006 and is responsible for account and project management, product development, and product training. He is a frequent industry speaker and participates in several community initiatives, including the NISO Content and Collection Management Topic Committee and the Society for Scholarly Publishing Website Development Committee.

Before joining Atypon, Mr. Cohn served as Coordinator of Product Development for Mary Ann Liebert, Inc., publishers, a New York-based scientific, technical, and medical publisher, where he worked to grow their electronic publishing program. He graduated from Carnegie Mellon University with a degree in Statistics.
