About Atypon

Since 1996, Atypon Systems, Inc. has provided software, hosting, and systems development to the information industry. We enable publishers to grow their business by providing superior technology and service that supports the electronic exchange of scholarly information. We are headquartered in Santa Clara, USA, and have offices in New York, USA and Oxfordshire, United Kingdom.

We are a private, employee-owned company that has grown consistently and profitably, with no third-party owners or debt. We have earned a reputation for excellence in technological innovation, and a management culture that stresses creative thinking, quality engineering, and accountability to our customers.

Atypon works closely with clients to research future needs in the marketplace, create solutions, and deliver them at an affordable cost. We do not seek to become a publisher or an intermediary for publishers and will not compete with their offerings. Rather, we serve the online publishing needs of our clients, who in turn are service organizations for their users, authors, or society members.

Atypon offers two primary services: Atypon Premium and Atypon Link. We can also deliver fully customized solutions and reference linking solutions for non-hosted publishers.

Atypon Premium is a fully hosted e-publishing solution for clients who wish to manage the entire process of delivering and managing their content online. Publishers have direct control over all stages of content production, linking and depositing, as well as access rights and multi-level business model provision. They can devise and construct innovative strategies for marketing and delivering information to all their prospective and existing end-users. This is all made possible via their own distinctly branded, customized, and feature-rich website.

Atypon Premium powers major scholarly journal websites such as JSTOR, Annual Reviews, Liebert Online (Mary Ann Liebert, Inc., publishers), de Gruyter Reference Global(Walter de Gruyter), Caliber (University of California Press), University of Chicago Press and MIT Press. Atypon is also the technology partner of CrossRef, the citation linking backbone for online scholarly literature.

Atypon Link provides a cost-effective, aggregated hosting and delivery platform where publishers benefit from a well managed, outsourced e-publishing service. Allowing for a branded publisher presence and providing the ability to set publishing and business model parameters within an easy-to-use, reliable system, Atypon Link simplifies the process of launching and managing content online.

Atypon Link clients include Oldenbourg GmbH, Thomas Telford, Guilford Publications, Inc., and American Accounting Association.

PDFplus dynamically embeds reference links within PDFs, enabling publishers to provide users with the linking functionality of HTML at a fraction of the cost. PDFs are also compressed to reduce download time, and they can be branded with the publisher's logo, copyright statement, and/or download details.
