About Us
Since 1996, Atypon has been providing software, hosting, and systems development to the information industry, allowing content providers to grow their businesses by providing superior technology and service that supports the electronic exchange of information. We are a private company that has grown consistently and profitably.
Our History
When he founded Atypon in 1996, Georgios Papadopoulos understood that the future of publishing lay in what the Web would make possible. Involved in pioneering developments at several high-tech companies in Silicon Valley, it was in particular his development of a sophisticated access control system for Rizzoli Publishing and data fabrication software for the first digital scholarly journal, the Journal of Biological Chemistry, which led him to see that these new technologies would profoundly shape the future of the information industry.
The culmination of that vision was Atypon Premium, our digital publishing platform that is used by some of the world's most prestigious publishers. The success of Atypon Premium transformed Atypon into a global enterprise with offices in Silicon Valley; New York; Oxford, England; and Athens, Greece. Acquisitions of Extenza e-Publishing Services in 2005 and eMeta in 2008 have expanded our product portfolio to include Atypon Link and RightAccess and RightCommerce, respectively.
Why We Do What We Do
Success begins with reasons for why people do the work. The power and elegance of our products is the unifying context in which the people who make Atypon successful find it possible to thrive intellectually and creatively. The remarkable evolutions of the products create the passion and dedication that motivate members of the team at Atypon. This makes it possible for Atypon to be a company of what we term "component owners," people who take their responsibilities to the product and its users seriously.
The Strength of Collaboration
Partnerships stand the best chance of succeeding when they benefit both partners. This is a truth that we recognized from the beginning and have accordingly designed our products to support a collaborative partnership with content providers. Publishers supply high-quality content, marketing expertise, business rules, and very exacting and discriminating end-users, and we supply technology to support all of these. We understand that our role is to evolve our products in ways that the technology industry, the information industry, and, most important, our customers, require of us, and we do this through multiple software releases each year.
